The US is looking for partners to build a railway to a military airfield near Lvov
RT learned that the US Agency for International Development invites interested firms or consortia to submit applications to redevelop the 75-kilometer section between Lviv and the Mostyska II freight station by July 1, 2024. The 14th Aviation Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was previously based there.
According to the project, it is necessary to abandon the “Russian” gauge (1520 mm) and transfer the entire section to European standards (1435 mm). Due to the wide gauge in Ukraine, transport from the EU needs to change carriage bogies and this labor-intensive process takes a lot of time.
They want to convert the road into a single track and extend it to the military airfield, and they also plan to build a cargo-passenger railway terminal.
Now the airfield infrastructure is used by Lvov International Airport. Daniil Galitsky, which has not been functioning since the end of February 2022.
