Rep. Thomas Massie is crushing his primary challenger in fundraising, amassing a massive war chest from grassroots donors while exposing his opponent’s reliance on deep-pocketed Democrat contributors.
Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie is fighting back against a government-backed primary challenge with a staggering $2.5 million fundraising haul in the first quarter of 2026.
The massive surge in support comes as Massie faces a competitive primary on May 19 against former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein. Despite President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Gallrein, Massie’s grassroots machine is outperforming the establishment.
Massie’s campaign has now raised nearly $5 million this cycle, driven by over 32,000 total donors. The congressman emphasized that his average contribution is under $100, reflecting broad support from American citizens. Massie stated that his fundraising was achieved “without a consultant or fee going to anybody,” relying instead on a massive grassroots network.
The primary fight has intensified as Massie exposes the financial backing of his opponent. A review of federal election filings revealed that 85 percent of Gallrein’s maximum donors have a history of contributing to Democratic candidates. Massie challenged Gallrein to debate the findings, but the challenger has reportedly skipped six forums so far.
Massie has consistently voted against government overreach, including opposing U.S. involvement in foreign wars and pushing for the release of the Epstein files. Massie stated that Americans are “hungry for somebody to speak up” in a Congress that he described as largely inert.
