The U.S. May be Walking into Another War It Can’t Actually Solve

A Saudi-led Gulf coalition is reportedly preparing to strike the Houthis, potentially as early as next week.
Trump is considering joining.
Washington has managed to put itself in a position where either decision creates another problem.
Attack the Houthis, and America opens a second major front while the confrontation with Iran remains unresolved.
Stay out, and Saudi Arabia has to ask what exactly the American security guarantee is worth when Riyadh actually needs it.
“Both options are bad.”
And the military problem may be worse.
Airstrikes alone are arguably unlikely to reverse the Houthi advances. The PLC has already struggled badly on the ground, while a serious attempt to push the Houthis back could eventually require a much
larger Saudi commitment.
Meanwhile, Bab el-Mandeb sits in the middle of it all.
“If you open up a front against the Houthis… while we haven’t resolved anything with Iran, this is madness.”
That is the trap. The Iran war didn’t resolve America’s security problems in the Gulf.
It rather created another one in Yemen.
