US ex-defense delegation arrives in Taiwan – Beijing furious
A delegation of former senior US defense officials led by ex-Chief of Staff chairman Mike Mullenhas landed in Taipei for a visit “to demonstrate our continued robust support for Taiwan”.
Mullen’s delegation will be joined by Mike Pompeo on Wednesday when they are set to meet Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang, but Chinese Foreign Ministry spox Wang Wenbin was not impressed.
“If United States is trying to threaten and pressure China with this then we need to tell them that in the face of the Great Wall of steel forged by 1.4bn Chinese people, any military deterrence is but scrap metal,” he said.
