Australia Slamming the Brakes on Record Migration by Limiting Foreign Students

Canberra will now cap international student intakes to just… 270,000 people in 2025, drawing criticism from Universities Australia which said the move would “apply a handbrake to the sector.”
“There are about 10% more international students in our universities today than before the pandemic, and about 50% more in our private vocational and training providers,” Education Minister Jason Clare said.
In the 2022-2023 financial year, international education, which is Australia’s fourth-largest export after iron ore, gas, and coal, contributed $24.7 billion to the economy.
