Trump Calls Out GOP Sen. Tom Cotton by Name for Blocking “No More Changing of Clocks Act” — House Already Passed Permanent Daylight Saving Time 308-117

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR)

President Trump dropped the hammer overnight on Senate Republicans and named Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas as the man holding up a bipartisan bill to end the twice-a-year clock change for good.

In a Truth Social post early Friday, Trump told Senate Republicans they “have to get moving” on what he calls the “No More Changing of Clocks Act,” officially the Sunshine Protection Act.

Despite overwhelming public support for eliminating clock shifts, Sen. Cotton has reportedly stepped in as the main bottleneck in the Upper Chamber.

According to NewsNation, Cotton argued during Senate floor debate that establishing permanent Daylight Saving Time would result in “absurdly late” winter sunrises, digging his heels in against a measure supported by tens of millions of voters.

President Trump minced no words, publicly singling out the Arkansas Republican for blocking a bill that could be signed into law almost immediately if the Senate would simply do its job and put it up for a vote.

Trump listed what he said the studies show if the country locks in the current daylight saving schedule and never changes the clocks again: lower robbery and murder rates, fewer car accidents (especially those involving pedestrians), lower risk of cardiac issues, stroke, and seasonal depression, safer walks home from school for children, more family time, a boost for sports, fitness, tourism, retail, and restaurants, and lower energy bills.

He also name-checked PGA Commissioner Brian Rolapp, saying winter golf tournaments run out of sunlight under the current setup.

Read his full statement below:

“Republicans in the Senate have to get moving on what I call the “No More Changing of Clocks Act,” officially known as The Sunshine Protection Act, a ridiculous Clock changing process that takes place twice a year, costs our Country a fortune, is bad for Crime, stress on people, Sports, and just about everything else you can imagine.

Even the highly respected PGA Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, needs it for the completion of Golf Tournaments in the Winter, when they just plain run out of sunlight.

People don’t want to go around changing their Clocks anymore and, besides, far and away, most people like having an hour of extra sunlight in the evening, rather than in the morning.

The House has passed this Bill, 308-117, on July 14, 2026, with Great Bipartisan support. Both Democrats and Republicans want it to happen. It’s now up to the U.S. Senate where it would be another Great Bipartisan Victory.

Unfortunately, it’s being held up by Senator Tom Cotton, of Arkansas, for reasons unknown. People are sick and tired of having to change their Clocks twice a year.

Even most farmers would rather have additional time in the evening to harvest their crops. It is foolish, inconvenient and, in some cases, very costly.

For Cities and States with Watchtowers, and hard to reach places, it costs Millions of Dollars. A recent case was made that it is also bad for your health in the anxiety it creates.

Leading Medical, Crime, and Economic Studies have shown, conclusively, that ceasing the biannual time change, giving us one extra hour of natural sunlight in the evenings, will help Decrease Robbery and Murder Rates, Reduce Car Accidents (especially those involving Pedestrians!), Lower Risk for Cardiac Issues, Stroke, and Seasonal Depression, Make It Safer for Children to Walk Home from School, Increase Time with your Family, Strongly Support Extracurricular Activities, Boost the Sports, Fitness, Tourism, Retail, and Restaurant Industries (and more!), and Save Money on Energy Bills, because everyone will be enjoying an EXTRA HOUR OF DAYLIGHT.

In other words, leave it as it is now, and never change it again. But importantly, with a 100% approval rating, is that NOBODY wants to change their Clocks twice a year. This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can unite behind!”

The Gateway Pundit reported in July that the House passed the Trump-backed Sunshine Protection Act, 308–117, sending it to the Senate.

The bill, H.R. 139, was introduced by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL). It would make daylight saving time the permanent standard, with a state opt-out, so Americans would stop “springing forward” and “falling back.”

According to Congress.gov, the House passed it on July 14 and the Senate received it the next day, where it was referred to the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.

This is not a new fight. The Gateway Pundit reported in March 2022 that the Senate passed a version of the Sunshine Protection Act by unanimous consent. That bill died in the House.

Cotton later said he would have objected if he had been on the floor. He has warned that permanent daylight saving time would push winter sunrises later and put children on the road to school in the dark.
