PDR is often inaccessible during the wet season
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) continually monitors the condition of Queensland’s state-controlled roads to ensure they are safe and capable of handling the growing traffic demand.
A spokesman said the Peninsula Developmental Road remained inaccessible to heavy machinery due to the North Queensland wet season.
“TMR will inspect the road and commence the grading and maintenance program in late April 2025, subject to weather and road conditions,” he said.
“We’d like to thank road users for their patience and urge them to drive to conditions in this wet weather.
“The Queensland Government has committed $60 million for future stages of the Cape York Region Package (CYRP Stage 3). The Queensland Government’s 20 per cent contribution to the next stage of CYRP is subject to negotiation with the Australian Government.
“TMR has commenced planning and pre-construction works to determine the investment strategy for Stage 3.”
