Michigan voters just got a clear choice. On one side stands former FBI agent, Army veteran, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, a man who spent years hunting terrorists and helping bring Osama bin Laden to justice.
On the other stands progressive firebrand Abdul El-Sayed, the newly minted Democratic nominee who has spent his campaign cozying up to radicals, defending the indefensible, and pushing an agenda that would empty prisons, jack up taxes, and leave Michigan families less safe and poorer.
Progressive former public-health official Abdul El-Sayed narrowly defeated establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, setting up a high-stakes November contest with Rogers.
El-Sayed won despite being heavily outspent and with the support of left-wing leaders including Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Rogers responded with a blistering statement portraying the race as a choice between common sense and a radical agenda that he says would make Michigan more dangerous and less affordable.
“I spent years hunting terrorists and bringing Osama bin Laden to justice. Never in a million years did I think that I would be running against someone who believes America deserved 9/11.
Abdul doesn’t represent a vision for the future. He’s leading a movement grounded in ideological fanaticism. His agenda would make our communities less safe and our state less affordable. He wants to empty prisons and put murderers and sex offenders back on our streets.
He pledged his support to the Muslim Brotherhood and campaigns with people who refuse to condemn terrorism. And, he advocated for the largest tax hike in American history — costing families already struggling to make ends meet over $3000 more per year. This election isn’t just about choosing a Senator.
It’s about deciding whether Michigan has a future built on common sense — or whether we hand the keys to the most fringe extremists in the nation.”

El-Sayed, the Bernie Sanders-backed epidemiologist and former Wayne County health official who never won elected office until this primary, has made a career of pushing far-left orthodoxy. He has campaigned alongside Hasan Piker, the radical streamer who infamously declared that America “deserved” the September 11 attacks.
When pressed by Michigan reporters to disavow those comments, El-Sayed refused. Rogers, who lived the post-9/11 reality as an FBI special agent and later as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, finds the association beyond the pale, and rightfully so.
It gets worse. El-Sayed has publicly pledged support for figures tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization long designated a foreign terrorist group by multiple U.S. allies and repeatedly flagged for its role in radicalizing networks.
He has participated in “abolish prisons” discussions that include voices favoring the release of violent criminals, including murderers and sex offenders, back into communities.
And his signature economic pitch involves massive tax increases to fund socialist healthcare schemes that would hit working Michigan families hardest, to the tune of more than $3,000 a year according to the critique Rogers leveled.
