Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) gave Democrats another reason to wonder where he really stands after a revealing slip during a public interview.

At the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on Saturday, an audience member asked the Pennsylvania Democrat a simple question: why not become an Independent?

Fetterman didn’t miss a beat.

“Because I’m a lifelong Republican.”

CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett, sitting next to him, immediately cut in: “Democrat.”

The crowd erupted. Fetterman put his hand to his head, laughed, and admitted what every person in that room already knew.

“That’s gonna break through,” he said. “That’ll get clipped.”

Then came the cleanup: “I’m a lifelong Democrat.”

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Fetterman dropped a pre-recorded video at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas earlier this month introducing his “great friend,” Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA). He called himself a “common-sense Democrat,” said he would “always stand with America,” and vowed to “reject the extremes and Socialism and that anti-American way of life.”

The left lost its mind.

Days later, The Gateway Pundit reported that Democrats were openly panicking on television about a possible Fetterman party switch. Jen Psaki said Democrats needed to be “clear eyed that he might flip parties.” Mitch Landrieu said even a “second grader in politics” would understand why a sitting Democrat addressing a Republican convention looks like a man shopping for a new team.

Anonymous former Fetterman staffers launched an X account promising to dump dirt on him. Far-left Democrats have floated primaries. The same crowd that used to sell him as a working-class folk hero now treats his support for Israel, his votes with Republicans on Iran, and his habit of calling the DSA “deeply anti-American” as unforgivable sins.

Back in June, The Gateway Pundit reported Fetterman’s own diagnosis of the party he still claims: “the Democratic Party is becoming an orgy of socialism.” The New York primaries, he said, “vindicate my description.”
