A Democrat caller on C-SPAN completely lost it at former Jill Biden press secretary and Democratic strategist Michael LaRosa for refusing to rubber-stamp Michigan’s far-left U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
The caller, identifying as a Democrat, tore into LaRosa for daring to tell the truth about El-Sayed after the progressive upset moderate Rep. Haley Stevens in the August primary and now faces Republican Mike Rogers in November.
“What kind of a Democratic strategist are you?” the caller demanded. “I mean, you come on a national show and you say that a must-win state like Michigan has an unfit candidate in El-Sayed… As a Democratic strategist coming on a national program, I think that’s totally UNACCEPTABLE — and I think that you’re doing a DISSERVICE!”
The caller insisted he would still vote for El-Sayed in the general election and claimed the nominee is not a Democratic Socialist of America member, even as the party’s progressive wing has flooded to his side.
LaRosa, a lifelong Democrat who has never supported a Republican for Senate, Congress, or the White House, did not flinch. He delivered a blistering, personal response that cut through the usual party loyalty nonsense.
“I’ve never supported a Republican in my life for the Senate, for the White House, for Congress. And I don’t live in Michigan. So I mean, my opinion really doesn’t matter that much,” LaRosa said. “I could NEVER support El-Sayed for a couple of reasons. One, there are certain things that do transcend politics, that do transcend parties, and that’s okay.”
He then got personal about September 11, 2001.
“I just come from a time when I know I watched people jumping out of windows on 9/11, 70 miles from when the towers were falling and burning for 3 months. We could smell it from where I was from in Pennsylvania because of how the wind blew. It’s personal to me. And 25 years later, somebody who can’t stand up to his friends online, on streamers… if you’re too COWARDLY and too WEAK to stand up to somebody who JUSTIFIES terrorism, who JUSTIFIES 9/11, who JUSTIFIES the suffering of people… All those people did was show up for work that day or showed up on an airplane.”
“And this guy doesn’t have it in him to say it’s WRONG to say that or to stand up to his friends,” LaRosa continued. “The test of leadership is NOT standing up to the other side. That’s EASY to do. It’s standing up to your FRIENDS. And he’s too much of a COWARD to do it.”
