A federal appeals court on Monday ordered Missouri to reinstate its GOP-favored Congressional map after the Supreme Court blocked the new map.
The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals said Missouri’s current plan to use the old map for this year’s midterms violates the Constitution.
The three-judge panel included: Judges Loken (George H W Bush), David Stras (Trump) and Justin D Smith (Trump).
“This Court holds that Missouri’s current plan to use the 2022 map in the November 2026 general election violates the Constitution. Only use of the 2025 map complies with the Constitution and federal law. We affirm the district court1 and remand for entry of a permanent injunction,” the court’s order read.
The injunction is paused until next Monday as the case heads back to the US Supreme Court for review.
The Missouri Supreme Court earlier this month threw out the state’s new congressional map that favored the GOP and eliminated one Democrat seat.
The new map was set to only go into effect in 2028 if voters approve it during the 2026 midterms.
Last year, the Missouri House of Representatives, controlled by Republicans, passed a sweeping new congressional map that would reduce Democrat representation to just one seat.
After a fierce court battle, the case is bouncing back to the Supreme Court for review.
