Military Overview On June 23, 2024: Russian Offensive Brings New Victories On Ukrainian Frontlines (18+)

Ukrainian frontlines are inflamed by heavy battles. Over the past days, the Russian army achieved new victories and advanced in several directions.

The intensity of Ukrainian counterattacks is decreasing in the Kharkiv region. Fierce fighting continues in Volchansk, where Russian forces are again expanding the zone of their control in the town and around it, repelling Ukrainian attacks. In recent days, Russian forces secured their control of the entire territory of the local aggregate plant. As a result of Russian advance, the Ukrainian garrison blockaded in the highrise buildings in the center of the town were cut off from from their comrades in the southern part of the town. The only road along which supplies were delivered to the besieged soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine came under the fire control of the Russian army. Russian assault pushes the depleted Armed Forces of Ukraine across the Volchya river, preventing Ukrainian reserves from transferring forces and military equipment across the river.

East of Volchansk, Russian forces launched counterattack in the village of Tikhoe an took control of almost a half of the settlement. The Ukrainian military used the settlement as a bridgehead for counterattacks on the eastern flank of Volchansk.

Meanwhile, the intensity of fighting has slightly decreased in the area of Liptsy, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue attempts to break through Russian defense on the southern outskirts of the village of Glubokoe but with less enthusiasm. The Ukrainian military is accumulating human and material reserves to continue counteroffensive actions.

Azov fighters under fire in the Kremennaya forest area:

Russian airborn units continue offensive in the Seversk direction, pushing the 54th Separate Motorized Brigade of the AFU away from the eastern outskirts of Razdolovka. The settlement is almost surrounded from three directions. Russian forces reportedly gained a foothold on two streets of the village.

Ukrainian positions under fire in the Seversk direction:

Heavy battles continue in Chasov Yar in the Artyomovsk direction. The main part of the Canal district came under the control of Russian troops. The Gidrozhelezobeton plant located in the northwestern part of the district came under the Russian control. The breakthrough was possible thanks to the Russian advance in the forest areas north of Canal. It also secured Russian advance in the village of Kalinovka.

The Russian army has achieved important victory in the area of Toretsk. Ukrainian military sources admitted the full Russian control of the village of Shumy located on the eastern outskirts. The control of the settlements paves the way to the full-scaled Russian offensive on the town of Pivnichnoe, where clashes are already ongoing on the outskirts. Russian forces reportedly entered Pivnichnoe from the northeastern direction and clashes broke out on Kalinova and Individualna streets.

The AFU deployed their stronghold on two dominant heights between Shumy and Pivnichnoe. These are the dumps of Vostochnaya and Severnaya mines. Some preliminary reports claimed Russian control of several Ukrainian positions on the heights, but they are yet to be confirmed.

At the same time, the Russian army is pushing the AFU from their positions to the north deployed between the villages of Druzhba and Ozaryanivka. The Ukrainian military hopes that the Seversky Donets-Donbass kanal the could slow down Russian advance on the northern flank of its stronghold in Toretsk. Meanwhile, Russian forces are advancing along the railway from the Mayorskaya station, approaching Druzhba from the eastern direction. According to preliminary reports from the front, Russian assault groups entered Polevaya and Zaliznichnaya streets in Druzhba.

To the south, have battle for the village of Pivdennoe continues. The Russian military is yet to officially confirm the full control of the settlement. According to preliminary reports, the AFU began retreating to the village of Zaliznoe located to the west.

Destroyed Ukrainian position:

Russian offensive north of the Donetsk urban agglomeration is ongoing on a wide front. South of Toretsk, the Russian army is preparing to launch assault on another Ukrainian stronghold that was heavily fortified during the years of war in the Donbass. This is the town of Novgorodsky, renamed by Kiev’s authorities to New York within their decommunization policy. Battles have already reached the eastern outskirts of New York, while the AFU is preparing for the upcoming Russian assault from Novoselovka to the south.

Ukrainian garrison deployed in the area of Toretsk and New York, aimed to defend the strategically important logistic hub in Konstantinovka, is threatened by Russian simultaneous advance north (south of Bakhmut) and south (north of Ocheretino).

The Russian army is rapidly expanding the zone of its control in different directions around Ocheretino located northwest of Avdeevka.

Russian forces continue attacks from their positions in Novobakhmutovka on the village of Aleksandropol which is under the control of the Ukrainian army. Battles here are likely aimed to distract more Ukrainian forces from the ongoing assaults in the villages nearby.

Having secured their positions in the area of Arkhangelskoe, Russian forces are surrounding the village of Kalinovo feom the west. Russian forces are bypassing Ukrainian fortifications south of the village. As a result, over the past days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost several more strongholds in the fields between Kalinovo and Novoaleksandrovka.

In the area of Novoalexandrovka, Russian forces approached the village of Vozdvizhenka located to the northwest. Ukrainian stronghold in the village is of strategic importance, it is aimed to protect the Konstantinovka—Pokrovsk highway used for military supplies of Ukrainian forces along the entire frontline in the Donetsk direction. According to preliminary reports on the morning of June 23, the Russian army entered the village of Vozdvizhenka.

South of Ocheretino, Russian forces continue assault in the village of Sokol. The settlement was destroyed into ruins by prolonged battles. At the same time, Russian forces are expanding the zone of their control north of the settlement, bypassing the fortified area located near the village.

The AFU are also still in control of the village of Novoselovka Persha. Ukrainian stronghold there allows to accumulate forces to repel Russian attacks from Novopokrovskoe to the northeast and Umanskoe to the southwest.

On the southern flank in the Avdeevka direction, fighting reached the eastern part of the town of Karlovka, after the Russians advanced along the northern and southern shores of the Karlovskoe water reservoir. The recent gains allowed the Russian military to surround the village of Yasnobrodovka from the south. The assault in Yasnobrodovka is close to end with the Russian victory. The mop up continues in the settlement. The AFU are holding defense north of the village to repel Russian assault from Umanskoe.

Russian FAB-500 destroyed Ukrainian command post in the Kherson region:

In the South Donetsk direction, heavy battles continue in the town of Krasnogorovka. The AFU are in control of the highrise buildings in the northern part of the town, complicating Russian advance in the center of Krasnogorovka. Meanwhile, fighting is also ongoing on the western outskirts of Maksimilianovka west of Georgievka.

At the same time, Russian forces have advanced in the Ugledar direction, having taken under their control about 3.5 more square kilometers south of Paraskovievka and the village of Konstantinovka. The Russian army is approaching the road that leads from the town of Konstantinovka to Ugledar.

The frontlines remained unchanged in the Zaporozhie region, where the Russian army continues attacks in different directions.

The result of the battle for Krynki:

The footage from the Kherson region confirmed the end of the battle for the village of Krinky, where the AFU lost the bridgehead covered with blood of Ukrainian servicemen. Russian forces launch attacks on Ukrainian positions on the western bank of the Dnieper River. Rare clashes continue in the area of the Antonovsky railway bridge.

The Russian army maintains the military initiative in all directions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are forced to maintain large reserves for counterattacks in the Kharkiv region, while retreating in all other directions.
