What if, instead of imposing tariffs on ships passing through the Malacca Strait, Indonesia builds Malacca City—a new world-class city serving as a hub for international logistics, aviation, finance, and trade?
🌏 Nearly 22% of global maritime trade passes through the Malacca Strait.
🚢 More than 100,000 ships transit through it every year.
Rather than merely collecting revenue from transit fees, Indonesia could generate far greater economic value through deep-sea ports, an international airport, special economic zones, a financial center, universities, technology hubs, and modern residential areas that attract investment from around the globe.
This is part of the vision shared by Jamie McIntyre, Founder of LUX Property Group and Editor-in-Chief of the Australian National Review, who proposed the development of six new cities, each with a population of over two million, across various regions in Indonesia.
LUX Property Group itself is currently developing Nesara Bay City in South Lombok and has submitted a proposal to participate in the development of Nusantara by building eco-resorts, a convention center, artificial beaches, and lagoons.
Indonesia has a massive opportunity to become one of the world’s largest economic powerhouses—not by levying tariffs on global trade, but by creating cities that serve as magnets for investment, innovation, and job creation.
