Australia is a Country in Decline: Matt Canavan
By Sky News Australia
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan weighs in on the split between his Party and the Liberal Party.
“We are a country in decline, and we’ve got to fight back,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“I do fully support what David Littleproud did today – it showed conviction and courage.
“The thing that has frustrated me so much in the last few years in Australian politics is that there is far too much emphasis on exactly what little tweaks and changes in policy we need to make to win a seat based on focus groups and polling.
“Maybe just maybe we need to decide what is best for our country first and go fight like hell for that.”
Here’s what others had to say:
@ricky6864
Been in decline before albo but in a extremely sharp decline now.
80%of our resources owned, controlled by foreign corporations, massive ownership of residential properties, net zero, mass immigration
@ZenitsuSpeedRun
I’m glad the nationals left the coalition. The liberals have been captured by the left. The nationals are at least trying to stay conservative.
@kerrindonaldson6484
Good on Nationals. Good to have a Conservative Party. Aussies tired of the uni labour/liberal party. Now we have a choice.
@cherylleech3718
About time Australia was put first. Net zero is destroying Australia. We cant afford our electricity bills and putting food on the table. Politicians namely Albanese and his mob, need to get their heads out of the sand and prosper our country not themselves.
@grellis6483
The Nationals look more relevant and potent today than they have since they joined the Coalition.
@mortimersnerd8136
I could have told you this fifteen years ago,this is not the country I grew up in. This country is becoming poorer and more fractured every day. To many immigrants who are not patriotic but just here for our generous handouts. One flag not three. Why did we fight a war and then give our country away? VOTE ONE NATION.
@Keith-z5f1n
I’m 80 years young I didn’t go to Vietnam in 1967 for what Australia is today.when the youth degrade this country deface our military memorials and not wanting to serve In our defence force leaves me cold disappointed and dislike bordering on detest.
@sharonalbanese8084
Matt Canavan is exactly what this country needs- someone with conviction who actually cares about our country rather than himself. He should be PM imo.
@CC-uq4hu
Libs had their chance and have contributed to the mess for years. Time to vote independent parties for me.
@davidlipman8093
This decline is totally self inflicted. What a shame for the awesome folks from the land of Oz.
@kerry-leeangel1656
I agree we are a country in fast decline but the majority of people couldn’t care less as long as they get handouts that make their lives more comfortable ‘today’ too bad about the years ahead.
@MarkHines-p8d
Australia should be the richest country in the world per head of population with the amount of resources we have. Unfortunately the government is killing our mining sector.
@AussiePom
Australia is in decline because our liberal and labor federal politicians have put us in this decline. They’ve allowed corporate Australia to rule the country where they’re a rule unto themselves and accountable to no one. Also this idiotic drive to net zero is crippling the country with local manufacturing all but now wiped out due to super high power prices. It started in the Howard and Keating years and been growing ever since. So when they ask what does John Howard think is the answer who care what he thinks for he’s one of the architects of all this misery. It was Howard’s idea that people should invest in property which has been driving housing prices every higher so that now first home buyers can’t afford to buy a home. We have a declining birth rate and with housing so expensive who wants to bring kids into this sort of Australia.
@aussie5183
You could see this happening the minute Susan was elected leader, when more than half the liberal party would be better suited in the right wing of the labor party.
@thisthattheother7541
This is a good thing- a wake up call for the Australian people and especially the right side of politics. The country is broken.
@LesleighM-c7u
Matt knows what these fundamental issues are he is the person who should be front and centre he is highly regarded in Australia.
@juliennesmart6523
Matt Canavan is a credit to his country for the fight the National Party are putting forward to save Australia as it’s in decline…so now Liberal voters will back the Nationals instead for sticking with their policies for a better future for us all..Matt would make an excellent PM…
@johngeier8692
Net Zero is prohibitively costly, impractical, and totally unnecessary.
Climate action has negative utility and should be abandoned before more money and resources are wasted.
The correct energy policy is to simply use the most economical energy resources available.
Nuclear power plants should be legal in this country (numerous other countries already have them), however, new coal fired power plants should be built if these are cheaper.
