A recent analysis highlights a stark disparity between the costs of government workers and their private-sector counterparts, shedding light on the growing expenses tied to public sector employment. Government employees are 42.1% more expensive on average, with their benefit packages standing out as a significant driver of this difference. The report reveals that benefit costs for public sector employees are 83.6% higher than those provided to private-sector workers, covering areas like pensions, health insurance, and other non-wage benefits.

On average, public sector workers receive $57.70 per hour in total compensation compared to $40.60 for private sector employees. Of this, benefits make up a hefty $20.50 for government workers, compared to just $11.17 in the private sector.
